mcdougal littell pre algebra workbook is my biggest problem. Can any one assist me understand it? I am a beginner at it. What book or other resource do you suggest for beginning this subject?

Algebrator is a very user friendly product and is certainly worth a try. You will also find many exciting stuff there. I use it as reference software for my math problems and can swear that it has made learning math much more fun.
