how to do scale factors

Hey guys,I was wondering if someone could explain how to do scale factors ? I have a major project to complete in a couple of weeks and for that I need a good understanding of problem solving in topics such as trigonometric functions, like denominators and dividing fractions. I can’t start my project until I have a clear understanding of how to do scale factors since most of the calculations involved will be directly related to it in some form or the other. I have a problem set, which if somebody could help me solve, would help me a lot.
